BTCExchange Bitcoin (BTC) to Monero (XMR)

Bitcoin is the most-watched ledger in existence and Monero is the least. This is the route between them: send BTC, receive XMR at the address you name, without an account and without handing anyone a document.

What actually happens to your bitcoin

Your BTC deposit goes to an address generated for this order alone. Bitcoin's ledger is public, so that transaction stays visible forever: anyone can see the amount, the time and the address it went to. That part is not something an exchange can change, and no service that tells you otherwise is being straight with you.

What ends at that address is the trail forward. The Monero payout is a separate transaction on a separate chain, and Monero's ring signatures, stealth addresses and confidential amounts mean an outside observer cannot read the recipient or the sum, nor line it up with the bitcoin that came in. The two sides are not linked on any public ledger.

Be clear about who does know: we do, for as long as the order is alive, and so does the partner exchange that executes the Monero leg. We ask for nothing that ties the order to you personally — no account, no e-mail, no phone — but a route through any service is a route through somebody's records.

The route, in plain terms

Monero cannot be swapped inside the NEAR Intents liquidity we use for ordinary pairs, because Intents does not support it. So this direction runs in two legs. First your bitcoin is swapped into an intermediate asset and lands on our own account. Then a partner exchange sells that asset for Monero and pays out to your address.

Two legs is why the quote you see is a guaranteed minimum rather than a promise of an exact number. The rate on both legs moves while your deposit confirms; we quote what we can stand behind, and a favourable move stays with you.

How long it takes

The clock is mostly Bitcoin's. A deposit needs network confirmations before anything else can start, which is minutes when fees are normal and longer when the mempool is congested — pick a sensible fee when you send.

After that the swap itself is quick, and the Monero payout typically lands within minutes. Larger orders can take a little longer, because the partner leg is a real trade that has to be filled rather than a number in a database.

Networks and addresses

Send BTC on the Bitcoin network — the one shown on your order page — and nothing else. Bitcoin wrapped on another chain is a different asset with a different address format, and sending it to a Bitcoin address does not arrive.

The payout address must be a Monero address: a standard one starting with 4, or a subaddress starting with 8. Both work. Integrated addresses that carry a payment ID are the one case to avoid — send to a plain address or a subaddress instead.

A refund address is worth the ten seconds

If the swap cannot complete — a network stall, a partner declining a trade, a deposit that arrives after the quote has expired — the funds go back. The refund address is where they go, and on a Bitcoin deposit it should be a Bitcoin address you control.

Leave it empty and a return has to be arranged by hand through support, which is slower and needs you to prove the order is yours. Filling it in costs a moment and removes that entire conversation.
